East Rail Fanling (Last modified 2005-Jan-07, Rev. 00)

Introduction:

The Kowloon-Canton mainline south of Fanling is very easy to walk. The line has both footpaths and roads paralleling the railway line along with five pedestrian overpasses which make getting overhead images feasible.

To find these locations from the Fanling station, simply get off the suburban train and walk westward, over the highway. Eventually you will see a town park and a bicycle path running parallel with the highway. Follow this bike path southward for say 1/2 km. Keep you eye open for a bicycle path going eastward toward the railway line, that is the path to follow. If I recall, the pathway did indeed have steps, so bicyclists would have to stop and walk the steps.

National Footbridges - the pedestrian overpasses.

Each of the pedestrian overpasses have lables such as NF83. I have mentally labled these as 'National Footbridge'. I have no clue what the NF really means. Anyways, I have decided to present the images in this section of the Kowloon-Canton railway based on the location of the National Footbriges

NF83:  This is the where the bicylce path from Fanling comes into the area. The nearby steam reaks of raw sewage, but the photo angles are good.

NF82:  Located south of NF83 and is located on a curve near the Far East Agricutural Company Ltd.

NF81:  Located south of NF82 and is located near the road underpass leading from the nearby highway to Yuen Leng Village. There is a building here that appears to be a bus stop shelter. Good for coverage during rainning periods.

NF80:  This number not used.

NF79:  This is a good place to know about. The public toilets are located here. Not dirty at all, but bring your own paper or grab a magazine from the nearby recycling bin.

NF78:  This only a few meters north of the end of the foot path. The high tension pylons are not to far to the south. Therefore, the pylons can be used as a frame of reference when standing way back up in Fanling.

NOTICE:  I do not know where the town lines are of Fanling and Tai Po. What I do know is somewhere down the line, the Village of Yuen Leng exists and it is declared as part of Tai Po. Until I get all that sorted out, I will simply label all images taken from pedestrian bridge NF81 and southward as Yuen Leng and all images north as Fanling.
