On the Zungwini - Vryheid Oos section of the Coal Line.
Here is what the lower road looks like from up here on the upper road.
As we must climb up to Vryheid Oos, the upper road has slowly gained this much elevation and we will gain more as we run along the base of the hills.
The lower road runs down the flats and then makes a nasty and steep attack on the hill range. No wonder the upper road was constructed.
But for the empty coal trains, the lower road is the way to go as it is a more direct route.
